I finished up my sister’s mittens really quickly, even with the ripping out of one whole mitt I had to do (I didn’t check gauge and was half a stitch off which meant that mitt was TIGHT). I really love them and I hope that she will, too:

With those done, I wanted to cast on something new… but I felt so guilty about some things that were SO CLOSE to being finished. Like that Stocking I finished knitting back in September. I haven’t gotten around to knitting the other two, so I decided to just put Joshua’s name on it and add a hanging loop and FINISH it already.

Finished Stocking

I think it looks really good! I just did a little braid and sewed it on for the loop and I duplicate-stitched his name on using a chart for letters from an old stocking pattern. I modified the J to have a top, though, because I think not having one would confuse Joshua. I really like how the duplicate stitch came out:

And I’m definitely going to make more… eventually! I have a few Christmas gifts left to start (and finish!) and then I can work on selfish things again. The other unfinished thing that was bugging me was Joshua’s “Baby” Blanket. It had languished for so long because first I needed yarn and then I was distracted by other shiny things (like Margot!). But I picked it up again on the 3rd and tonight I finished it!

It’s approximately 42.5″ square, but the garter stitch is VERY stretchy and it will definitely grow. I think it will make a nice throw once Joshua outgrows it. I’m so happy it’s finished and he loves it! I’m really proud of actually finishing something for him for once and I’m sorry it took so long!

Now I’m going to cast on for a Christmas (or maybe birthday if I finish quickly) gift for my step mother and then one for my father. After that I have to finish up Ms. Squarey and Percy for my little sister. And then maybe figure out something for my sister Kerri or my mom. We’ll see!

Joshua’s “Baby” Blanket is coming along so nicely. He keeps on asking if it’s finished yet and it’s getting very close! I’m working the last set of green “logs” on the log cabin and then I will call it finished. It’s over 40″ square right now and while Josh thinks it’s big enough, I want the colors to be balanced.

In other news, I won a contest! Rebecca Danger did a giveaway on her blog the other day for her new pattern, Tofu the Dachshund, and I won! I’m so excited to knit one of these for Josh (and maybe for a few other people I know & love!). I wish I could buy all of her patterns from her shop! Maybe after our big move (coming super soon!).

I’ve been working pretty much nonstop on Joshua’s “Baby” Blanket. I’ve come to the unfortunate realization that I’m going to run out of yarn. I only have three balls of the dark green (Knit Picks Shine Worsted in Grass) left and each side of the blanket will use at least one full ball. It’s unfortunate because I can’t really afford yarn right now and I was also trying to use this as a stash-buster (well, since I bought the extra yarn last summer it now counts as stash!).

I’m making quite a bit of progress on it, though. The rows are long and tedious, but the garter stitch is mindless and I’m so pleased watching it grow. It’s now big enough for Joshua to snuggle under! I’m so glad that he already loves this blanket. I know he’s a bit old for a “blankie” but I’m still hoping that he’ll cherish this one. I’m not planning to “finish” the edges with anything, thus leaving it open to being enlarged at some point in the future, if he wishes (and assuming I can contemplate those looooong rows). Right now it’s a labor of love, in every sense of the word. Here’s just hoping I don’t run out of mojo before I run out of yarn.

I used to keep a blog (here) but I haven’t updated it in over a year. I had very faulty internet access and I wasn’t particularly fond of that site for hosting anymore. I’ve continued knitting since then, but I just haven’t had the urge to blog about it. I remember, though, when blogging I used to knit more. I miss blogging. I miss writing about my crafting and sharing it. Ravelry is a great site to keep track of projects and see other people’s work, but it just doesn’t keep me as motivated to knit as blogging always did.

I suppose it makes as much sense as any to begin again now. I’ve been working on Joshua’s “Baby” Blanket for the last little while. I started it in July of 2008 because he loved my nephew Connor’s baby blanket so much and asked for his own. When the overly-sheddy yarn and the ever-growing rows drove me too crazy, I set it aside. I picked it up again because it’s been way too long. The shedding is still frustrating (I wear a lot of black and end up with much green fuzz on me) but the blanket is progressing nicely. The rows ARE giant, but it’s easy knitting for TV watching and it’s not portable, so how much does being covered in fuzz really matter when I’m sitting at home?
